Orthodontic health is vital at every stage of life, and we're here to ensure you and your family receive the best care possible.
Early Orthodontic Care for Kids
Setting the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles begins with early orthodontic care. By monitoring your child’s dental development from a young age, we can identify and address any potential issues before they become more significant concerns.
Phase 1 Treatment
Phase 1 treatment is aimed at young children to guide the growth of the jaw and dental arches, address bite problems, and make room for permanent teeth. Also known as early orthodontic treatment, this procedure is done to intercept a more severe problem later on.
Starting treatment at this stage allows us to lay the groundwork for healthier oral development, potentially simplifying future orthodontic needs.
Does My Child Need Phase I Treatment?
Only about ten percent of kids will need phase I treatment, but if they do, it can save some major headaches down the line.
Some signs that your child may need Phase I treatment include:
- Problems with biting or chewing
- Sucking thumb after the age of five
- Protruding teeth on the top or bottom

How Does It Work?
Your child will tour our fun Nashville office and we’ll take pictures and x-rays. Dr. Ruth can use these to get an idea of your child’s orthodontic development and see if early intervention can help.
Dr. Ruth believes in a conservative treatment approach. She likes to eliminate the unnecessary expense for the parents when there is no long-term benefit for the child.
That means braces aren’t typically recommended for the majority of our Lucky 7 patients. These club members will be scheduled for follow-up evaluations 6 to 12 months apart so that Dr. Ruth can monitor growth and dental development.
The fun part? At each appointment, your little one will earn prizes and points!
