Dr. Ruth Edmonds
“I decided to become an orthodontist in the sixth grade when I had braces.”
Dr. Ruth Ross Edmonds is originally from Gary, Indiana. She came to Nashville to begin her studies at Vanderbilt University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in psychology with a pre-dental minor. After completing her undergraduate work, she enrolled at Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with top honors in the fields of pathology, physiology, and microbiology, as well as the Alpha Omega Award for highest GPA. She went on to study at the University of Tennessee in Memphis where she completed her graduate training in Orthodontics.
Upon graduation, Dr. Ruth set up her private practice, Braces by Dr. Ruth, in the heart of downtown Nashville. Her bright and vibrant office is the setting for a top-notch team and cutting-edge orthodontic care.
Experience
While building her practice, she served as a part-time assistant professor and course coordinator in the Department of Orthodontics at Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry. She currently serves on the DentaQuest Peer review committee and has also served as an orthodontic chart reviewer for Great Plains Dental Company.
Always eager to expand her knowledge of new technology and stay current with exciting trends in the field, Dr. Ruth Edmonds regularly attends seminars and is constantly building on her foundation in orthodontic treatment. She is also affiliated with a number of professional organizations.
She has been asked to lecture at the Capitol City Dental Society as well as the Pan-Tennessee Dental Society, and her research has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Since 2013, she has been an ADA Success Speaker, where she makes life-changing presentations to dental students across the country. Dr. Ruth is a graduate of the ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership and is also the recipient of numerous leadership awards.

Outside of the Office
She is married to vocalist Kevon Edmonds, lead singer of the R&B group After 7. Together they have a daughter, Karmella Rose Edmonds.
Outside of the office, Dr. Ruth is passionate about cooking, baking, planning events, fitness, traveling, shopping, and reading. She also enjoys creating works of fused glass and sandblasting. Coincidentally, from 2012 to 2018, she served as a commissioner on the Nashville Metro Arts Commission. Both in and out of the office, Dr. Ruth brings dedication, discipline, and a sense of joy to everything she does.
